Bielefeld match reaction
FC Augsburg continued their winning run against Arminia Bielefeld, making it five straight victories against the Bundesliga newcomers on matchday 12. "In the end, it was one of those wins that wasn’t pretty, but all that counts are the three points," summarised head coach Heiko Herrlich following FCA’s first win in five matches. Read all the reaction from the game in Bielefeld below.
Rani Khedira: "We’ve finished strongly in the last few games, which has given us more belief that we can still make something happen. That’s how it played out today. It definitely wasn’t memorable game, more like a typical 0-0. But we finished off a good attack and are happy about three important points. On Saturday, we have another six-pointer against Frankfurt."
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: "We have good team spirit and always fight to the end. The win was so important, because we’ve given ourselves more breathing space from the bottom teams. It was also important to keep a clean sheet. We know that it wasn’t a good game, but we’ll happily take the point. For me personally, it’s feels great knowing my goal sealed the three points, as I don’t score very often.”
Heiko Herrlich: "We were a little too frantic going forward; we weren’t clinical and often lacked the final pass. We discussed that during the break, but in the second half I felt like we were running out of steam a little. But that wasn’t the case; we were able to make something happen. In the end, it was one of those wins that wasn’t pretty to watch, but all that counts are the three points."
Uwe Neuhaus: "That was a tough defeat to swallow, and in my eyes it wasn’t deserved because we invested a lot and took the match to Augsburg with some really tough challenges. Before they scored, we had a similar chance but didn’t take it. And Augsburg took theirs clinically. However, this performance will give us the courage to be a little more adventurous going forward."
