The “French Connection” at FC Augsburg is continuing to grow. In Han-Noah Massengo, FCA have signed a dynamic midfielder who is sure to inject new tempo into the play in the middle of the pitch.

Massengo started his football career at AS Monaco’s youth academy, just like FCA centre-back Chrislain Matsima. Earmarked as a standout talent early on, the midfielder made his professional debut at just 17 for Thierry Henry’s side in November 2018 against Club Brugge in the Champions League. This moment made him the first player born in the 21st century to play in Europe’s premier competition. He went on to make more appearances in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, as well as in Ligue 1.

Experience in England and France

.In 2019 – when he was 18 –, Massengo took a leap of faith and moved to English side Bristol City, where he played an impressive 110 matches in a four-year spell. In the second half of the 2022/23 season, the Frenchman with Congolese roots was loaned to Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre, before making the switch to Burnley FC in 2023 – then under the stewardship of Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany. Massengo played in three Premier League games for the Clarets, in addition to eight Championship matches. In early 2024, he returned to Auxerre on a loan deal and played a further 17 times in the French first division there. He has also made several appearances for France at youth level.

Massengo is a modern, technically sound, pressing-resistant midfielder who is incredibly dynamic and dazzles both on and off the ball. As a central midfielder, he knows how to impress with his build-up play and short passing, amazing vision and fantastic dribbling skills under pressure. His skillset resembles that of Frank Onyeka, who was on loan at FCA last season, but Massengo also brings his own unique strengths to the table.

A family milestone and creative hobbies

Massengo is extremely dedicated to his passion for photography. His camera is a constant companion, whether he’s on the move or in his routine. He even documented his new beginning in Augsburg with a number of snapshots. His public appearance is shaped by an awareness of style and creativity, be it behind the lens, through his distinct affinity for fashion or his characteristic look. Recently, his life peaked with a very special event: the birth of his first child.

Han-Noah Massengo will wear the number 4 shirt for FC Augsburg. The midfielder has signed a contract until 2030 and wants to make his mark on the Bundesliga. “My goal is to give it my all every day and establish a place in the team for myself.” In Chrislain Matsima, Steve Mounié, Samuel Essende, Alexis Claude-Maurice, Kyliane Dong and now also Massengo, there are currently six members of the FCA squad who were born in France.
