Baum: “We have the quality to get more points”

First Team 13.01.2019, 18:10
After nine days training hard in sunny Spain, FCA head coach Manuel Baum takes time with FCA Fan TV to share his thoughts on the Alicante training camp. …thoughts on the training camp: "After the defeat to Wolfsburg we reflected long and hard about 2018, which in our view wasn’t the most successful year. We tried to the things we identified during the training camp. The focus, however, was primarily on the fitness, as well as our defensive play. We want to become a lot sharper in order to keep more clean sheets. … the number of goals conceded this season: "We can be pleased with the number of goals we scored, even though we missed one or two strong chances. But we need to be more compact in defence and make things as difficult as possible for our opponents." …what has been missing: "We’ve had some really good performances in phases, but football is a results game, you need to perform well for the whole 90 minutes. That has to be our aim, as a good performance for 70 minutes isn’t enough. I’m convinced that we can do do that though, as we have the quality to pick up many more points." … the next game against Fortuna Düsseldorf: "We need to best possible support from our fans, who supported us brilliantly in the first half of the season, even when the results weren’t always positive. We also need to analyse our opponents well, recognise their strengths and flaws and then play to our own strengths on the pitch. We absolutely want to keep all three points at home. … the season aims: "I would be happy to achieve our goal of staying up. It would be a huge step for Augsburg to play a ninth season in the Bundesliga. You can see how the last eight years in the Bundesliga has impacted the club when you look at the academy and the infrastructure around the WWK Arena. We want to continue building on that."
