Baum: “Intensity will be more important than the tactics”

After the extended international break, Bundesliga action returns this weekend, with FC Augsburg hosting FC Bayern on Saturday (15:30 CEST) at a sold-out WWK ARENA. The German record champions will be a big challenge for FCA, but the Fuggerstädter are determined to make life difficult for the favourites.
“Right from kick-off, everyone in the stadium and everyone in the team has to believe that we can win. The probability of a win might be lower against Bayern, but without that belief, it will never happen,” said FCA head coach Manuel Baum ahead of the clash with their neighbours from the state capital.
FCA can also draw confidence from what happened last season. In the second half of the campaign, FCA won 2-1 in Munich, making them the only team to beat Bayern last season. Four games into the new campaign, Baum’s side sit fourth in the table, while the Munich club travel to Augsburg in second place. Bayern also underlined their quality before the international break with a 7-0 win over Union Berlin.
Despite the strength of the opposition, Baum is primarily focused on his own team. “The key is to focus on ourselves. Bayern have an answer for just about everything, whether it’s through their personnel or their tactics,” said the 47-year-old.
For FCA to have a chance of upsetting the favourites, their intensity and work rate will be crucial. “The intensity we play with will be more important than the tactics. Every player has to run like crazy so that we can put pressure on the ball and stop them from playing their way through on goal,” added Baum.
Banks unavailable, Kade set to return
Augsburg will be without Steve Mounié, Tim Breithaupt and Noahkai Banks on Saturday. Banks sustained a lateral ligament injury to his right knee while on duty with the Germany U21 national team. Otherwise, FCA can call on almost a full squad, with Anton Kade, who has recently been sidelined with a muscle injury, also in line to return to the squad.
