FCA take to the pitch for first pre-season training session
New signings in action
FC Augsburg took to the pitch for their first pre-season training session on Monday afternoon. Numerous FCA fans were also on site to watch as the team trained under sunny conditions.
Missing from Monday’s session were Fabian Rieder, Michael Gregoritsch, Kristijan Jakić, Elias Saad and Nathanaël Mbuku, who had all been away at the FIFA World Cup with their respective national teams. New signings Faik Sakar, Calvin Brackelmann, Sima Suso and Hennes Behrens all took part, as did Yannik Keitel and Rodrigo Ribeiro, who had been part of the club’s first-team squad in the second half of the 2026/27 season already.
Dimitris Giannoulis, Sima Suso and Hennes Behrens – the latter having only joined the club on Monday – all trained individually. Over the course of the 90-minute session, the remaining players took part in various drills, with a focus on passing.
“We’ve analysed what went well last season and which areas we need to improve on. Here at Augsburg, we want to establish a clear culture and shared values. Our goal is to treat each game as a separate challenge and to strive to win it,” said head coach Manuel Baum.
There were several new faces on the pitch amongst the coaching staff as well, with new goalkeeper coach Michael Weirich completing his first session with Finn Dahmen and Nediljko Labrović. Tim Gulde, who has joined FCA from SSV Ulm, was also on hand as the team’s new physiotherapist.
FC Augsburg’s first pre-season friendly will take place on Saturday, 18th July at 14:00 CEST against a selection of players from Schwaben-Augsburg. The team will then head to training camp near Achensee from 31st July to 7th August.
