Baum: “We need to be just as sharp as we were against Bayern”

Away game in Elversberg

First Team 15.10.2026, 15:00

Following the 2-2 draw against FC Bayern, FC Augsburg’s next game will be away against newly promoted side SV Elversberg on Saturday (15:30 CEST). Manuel Baum’s team are looking to build on their performance against the record champions, but are aware of the challenges that the game will bring.

Although Elversberg are without a win in their last three games, the promoted side have already shown just how much quality they possess. Their narrow 2-1 defeat to FC Bayern and 3-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen are clear evidence of that. Baum has therefore demanded that his team must be “just as sharp as we were against Bayern.”

The FCA head coach is expecting a hard-fought match. He described Elversberg as a team that “keeps you on your toes for the full 90 minutes.” There is therefore no need for any further warning: “Every player knows what’s in store for us. The key will be to hold our own right from the start. It’ll be a good battle,” said Baum.

The head coach is not ruling out changes to the starting XI despite the strong performance against Bayern. Noahkai Banks, Alexis Claude-Maurice, Steve Mounié and Sima Suso all remain sidelined, whilst Marius Wolf is back to full fitness.

Saturday’s teams will feature a number of familiar faces, with Robin Fellhauer returning to his former club, and Lukas Petkov and Lasse Günther, who are both former Augsburg players, in the Elversberg squad.
