Training camp: FCA arrive in Malta

First Team 06.01.2020, 11:38

After kicking off their preparations for the start of the second half of the season on Saturday (4th January), Martin Schmidt’s team completed another training session on home soil on Sunday, before making the trip to Malta for their one-week training camp. The team completed a performance test at the Rosenaustadion, testing several aspects of their game including a lactate test.

The squad headed for Munich airport to embark on their journey to the Mediterranean island of Malta on Sunday afternoon. Midfielder Reece Oxford and forward Maurice Malone were unable to travel with the team due to a flu-infection. Further medical examinations will be conducted over the next few days to provide information as to when the two players will be able to travel to meet up with the rest of the squad.

28 players traveled to the camp

Despite the two absentees FCA took a total of 25 outfield players, as well as three goalkeepers, with them on the camp. Youth player Simon Asta, who had previously been used in the U19 and U23 squads before the winter break, is also with the team and has the opportunity to establish himself in the senior squad. It will also be decided over the next few days when Eduard Löwen, who recently joined the club from Hertha BSC, will join his new teammates on the camp.

The work in Malta begins on Monday for FCA. Martin Schmidt has scheduled two fitness sessions for his side to kick off the training camp. The sessions will take place on the training ground near the Malta national stadium.
