Swabian XI ready for FCA clash

When FC Augsburg begin their pre-season campaign with a friendly at the Rosenaustadion on Saturday, 18th July, they will face a special challenge straight away: the Fuggerstädter will take on a select Swabian XI featuring an exciting mix of players.
The Swabian XI brings together players from across the region, ranging from the Landesliga to the Regionalliga. Five players earned their place in the squad through an online vote organised by Augsburger Allgemeine, while the remaining spots were filled through nominations from the Bavarian Football Association (BFV). The squad therefore includes ambitious amateur players, names known in the region and footballers with experience at a higher level. Some of them even have a past connection with FCA.
The team will also be led by a familiar face on the touchline: Sascha Mölders will take charge as head coach. The former FCA fan favourite and prolific striker was most recently head coach of SC Wiedenbrück and was still turning out for SV Mering II himself last season. He will be assisted by Zdenko Miletić, FCA’s long-serving goalkeeping coach, as well as BFV association coach Alexander Weiser.
On Tuesday evening, the newly assembled Swabia XI squad held their first training session at the Paul Renz Academy. After introductions and a team photo, preparations got straight underway, with the focus on developing their playing style and routines. Zdenko Miletić worked with the goalkeepers, while Sascha Mölders put the outfield players through a variety of drills and match scenarios.
