Schlotterbeck: “We showed what we’re capable of”
Post-match reaction following FCA’s 150th Bundesliga win
In their 500th Bundesliga game, FC Augsburg continued their strong home form with a 2-0 victory over 1. FC Köln. Ribeiro and Claude-Maurice struck as Manuel Baum’s side made it eight games in a row unbeaten at the WWK ARENA. Read on for all the post-match reaction.
Rodrigo Ribeiro: “The atmosphere today was just incredible. Everyone’s been great to me since I joined. I was given a very warm welcome right from the start and I feel comfortable here in every respect. We need to keep doing what we’re doing: working together as a unit, putting in hard work and maintaining this team spirit. I love playing in the Bundesliga and I want to help the team as much as possible, so we can be successful.”
Alexis Claude-Maurice: “In the closing minutes, it wasn’t quite as easy to put the ball in the net. I could hardly run by the end, so I just didn’t think too much and took on the shot. The coach always tells us to keep it simple, especially to build our confidence. So much has happened over the last few months, but we should always remember where we’ve come from and consistently take things game by game.”
Noahkai Banks: “It’s all really enjoyable at the moment, and it’s perhaps impossible to fully explain why things are going so well. We’re just a brilliant team unit. We have fun in the dressing room and, as soon as we step out onto the pitch, we’re fully focused. This balance is what’s making things click right now. However, we still have ten games to go and we want to pick up as many points as possible. Then, at the end of the season, we’ll see what the outcome is.”
Keven Schlotterbeck: “When you win, that obviously makes things all the more enjoyable. We’re a great unit and we showed what we’re capable of. The team performance was brilliant, and all I can really say is: great work. Right now, it’s really hard to score against us – particularly when you compare our situation to the first few games of the season. Everyone played with the right attitude, and that was really, really important.”
Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg head coach): “First and foremost, I’m very happy for the club today. This was our 500th Bundesliga game and our 150th Bundesliga win, and in our special-edition shirts, too. That made it even better that we could reward the people who have given their all to this club with a victory, and we were able to see so many happy faces at full time. This was a game with several different phases and there were various periods of excitement on the pitch. We defended excellently today, and the team reacted really well to Köln’s change of system. Overall, that was a deserved victory.”
Lukas Kwasniok (1. FC Köln head coach): “Congratulations to FC Augsburg. We’re obviously disappointed right now, because we lost an important game today. It was a scrappy game overall, with few clearcut chances at either end. We didn’t defend well enough for the first goal, and it was essentially clear from the start that the team who scored first would have a huge advantage. Afterwards, we tried to force the equaliser and pile the pressure on, but we just came up a little bit short.”
