FC Augsburg suffered another defeat to another top club on Saturday, as they were beaten 2-0 by Borussia Dortmund. Here is the reaction to the game.

Finn Dahmen: “Today was the first match in quite a while where we didn’t play like we normally do. That’s why Dortmund absolutely deserved to win. They were just better than us in the key areas like being aggressive, showing intensity and winning duels.”

Keven Schlotterbeck: “Of course we are disappointed. Still, you have to acknowledge Dortmund’s quality and the fact that they did many things right today. We didn’t bring the intensity onto the pitch that we normally do. Games like this happen over the course of a season. What’s important is that we learn from this, overcome a small setback, and improve next week. You go into every game wanting to win, but that just doesn’t always work out.”

Fabian Rieder: “Dortmund did well today. We didn’t create enough going forwards. If we don’t play at our best it’s difficult to beat an opponent like that. We had our chances after they scored and we have to start taking them if we want to get something out of the game. Now it’s about analysing the match properly and working on it during the week. We’re on a positive path and we will continue on it, even if today was a small setback.”

Manuel Baum: “We’re disappointed, both with the result and with our performance over the 90 minutes. We put pressure on the ball too late and didn’t reach our top performance level at all. We will address that, because otherwise it will be difficult to pick up points.”

Niko Kovač: “We played a really good game from the first to the last minute. We controlled the opponent and didn’t allow anything. The way we played today was exactly the opposite of last week. We are happy about the three points against a really strong opponent. What Augsburg have shown in recent weeks wasn’t a coincidence, but the result of hard work.”
