Dahmen: "Can take plenty of positives from the game”

Post-match reaction to 2-1 defeat in Leipzig

First Team 07.03.2026, 18:55

FC Augsburg's run of three straight wins came to an end in Leipzig on Bundesliga matchday 25. Read on for all the post-match reaction from both camps.

Robin Fellhauer: “It hurts to have lost to a goal like that. We played well and made things extremely difficult for Leipzig, but unfortunately, we also didn’t take several of our chances and our defending wasn't the best on both goals. We also had a fantastic goalkeeper behind us today. The positive thing is that we’re creating plenty of chances, which we now have to make sure we finish over the next weeks. This defeat won’t knock us off course – we'll continue to stick to our plan.”

Keven Schlotterbeck: “We put in a very good performance away from home, but weren’t mature enough to see it out. It felt like we created enough chances to fill at least seven games today, and so we just need to have more of a killer instinct when it comes to finishing those – we weren’t clinical enough up front and need to stick closer to our opponents at the back. The second goal was extremely unfortunate. Finn made several fantastic saves today, and we’d all be really happy for him if he’s able to earn a spot at the World Cup.”

Finn Dahmen: “We can take plenty of positives from the game, even if the defeat was an unnecessary one in the end. We had several chances to score a second and instead, it was Leipzig who were able to make the most of their chances. It shows that we’ve grown as a team and that we’re able to compete with the top sides. With the quality that we have in our squad, it’s possible for us to go to Dortmund and win.”

Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg head coach): “It was end-to-end all game, which made for an entertaining watch. Overall, we defended well against a very strong Leipzig side, which is why it’s frustrating to have conceded twice. We were able to create several chances when we had possession, such as the penalty, the time we hit the post and Finn’s chance at the end. If we’d have managed to score a second earlier on, then we could have won today. I’m satisfied with the performance, with the exception of the two goals we let in, and overall, a draw would have been a fair result.”

Ole Werner (RasenBallsport Leipzig head coach): “I’m satisfied with the result, but not with the performance. We weren’t alert enough in defence or in transition, while we had a very good goalkeeper and a bit of luck on our side. There were several things we did well when we had the ball, but the final pass and our crosses were missing the quality that we need. It was a very close game, especially in the second half. At this stage of the season, it’s also about being able to win games when you’re not at your best.”
