Baum: “We want to come home with points”

Away in Dortmund

First Team 12.03.2026, 14:27

FC Augsburg travel to second-placed Borussia Dortmund on matchday 26. After an unlucky defeat in Leipzig, the Fuggerstädter want to back up that strong display, but this time with something to show for it. Kick-off is at 15:30 CET on Saturday.

Head coach Manuel Baum looked back on his side’s most recent outing ahead of this weekend’s trip. “We showed against Leipzig that we can put in a good performance against one of the league’s best sides – frustratingly, without getting any reward for it.” For Augsburg’s second away game in a row, the 46-year-old set out a clear target: “We’re going to Dortmund with the aim of coming home with points.”

That will be no easy task given Dortmund’s record this season. With 55 points and just two defeats – both against FC Bayern – BVB “fully deserve to be second in the table”, in Baum’s view. The FCA boss is particularly impressed by the amount of quality and depth Dortmund have in their squad.

Stand up to BVB as a team

To find a way of matching that quality, Augsburg’s coaching staff have focused on three areas over the past week: culture, team development and individual development. FCA want to “stand up to them as a team” and will be backed by a strong travelling support, with more than 2,200 FCA fans making the trip to Dortmund.

Captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, who scored the winner in Augsburg’s 1-0 victory in Dortmund last season, is back training with his teammates and has been able to complete most of the sessions recently, though a place in the squad will come too soon for him. Chrislain Matsima, Yannik Keitel and Uchenna Ogundu are also ruled out, while Noahkai Banks remains a doubt due to an ongoing problem with his foot.
