Schlotterbeck: “Important to work on ourselves”
Reaction to the defeat in Heidenheim
FC Augsburg’s 2-1 defeat at the Voith-Arena was overshadowed by a medical emergency in the stands. At the post-match press conference, both coaches addressed the incident and sent their best wishes to the Heidenheim supporter involved.
The players and coach had the following things to say about the game:
Keven Schlotterbeck: “We didn’t play well today, that’s obvious. We had big plans, but ultimately what matters is being switched on at 15:30 on a Saturday – with full concentration, energy and focus. Everyone has to ask themselves whether they really gave everything. The mood in the dressing room is low, but we’re not going to lose our heads. Setbacks are part of football. What’s important now is that we work on ourselves and stick together as a team.”
Fabian Rieder: “We’re very disappointed. We had high hopes, but right now we’re going through a difficult spell – every season has them. We gave away the goals ourselves and then didn’t take our chances in the second half. We weren’t able to get the job done out there. Defensively we need to be more compact overall. Still, I’m convinced we have a lot of quality in the squad and we’ll turn it around.”
Finn Dahmen: “As a team, that just wasn’t good enough today. Heidenheim deserved the win. We need to analyse clearly, address some things and, above all, get back to the basics in order to build confidence ahead of Wolfsburg.”
Sandro Wagner: “We weren’t able to bring the basics onto the pitch in the way we needed to. We lacked conviction today, but maybe also a bit of freedom in our play. Everyone wanted it – in some cases maybe too much. We need to work hard to get ourselves back on track.”
