FCA loan Felix Götze to Rot-Weiss Essen

Loan move with obligation to buy in case of 3. Liga survival

First Team 29.08.2022, 20:30

Felix Götze hasn’t featured in any of FC Augsburg’s four Bundesliga games so far this season or the DFB-Pokal first-round tie, with the 24-year-old only making nine competitive appearances for the club since joining in July 2018 – six in the top flight and three in the cup – not least because of injury problems. Therefore, the club have agreed to loan the Dortmund-born midfielder out to newly-promoted 3. Liga side Rot-Weiss Essen until 30th June 2023.

Götze also spent last season on loan in Germany’s third tier, playing for eventually promoted 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Should RWE manage to secure their 3. Liga status for another season, an obligation-to-buy clause would be activated.

“It’s important for my development that I’m regularly out on the pitch playing. I know the area and people there, and I have followed Rot-Weiss Essen’s development in the past months and years. I’m convinced that the move is the right step for me,” explained Felix Götze.

“We wish Felix all the best at Rot-Weiss Essen. We hope that he stays injury-free and can continue the positive development that he showed last season. Game time will help him a lot,” said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter.
