FCA beaten 4-0 by Leeds United in final pre-season friendly

FC Augsburg travelled to England for their final friendly of pre-season. In front of 21,894 spectators, FCA showed plenty of determination, particularly in the second half, but ultimately fell to a 4-0 defeat against Premier League side Leeds United.
FC Augsburg got off to the worst possible start as former Hoffenheim midfielder Anton Stach latched onto a long ball from Brenden Aaronson before firing home left-footed to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the first minute. FCA looked to respond and continued to push forward, but Leeds gave little away for much of the first half.
In the 11th minute, Finn Dahmen produced a fine save to keep out Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s close-range header. Leeds continued to pose a threat, however, and doubled their advantage in spectacular fashion in the 19th minute, when Tarik Muharemović scored with an overhead kick following a corner. The hosts made it 3-0 in the 28th minute when James Justin was picked out on the edge of the box and finished clinically.
FCA also had a good opportunity of their own when Uchenna Ogundu burst down the flank before finding Robin Fellhauer, who sent his effort wide (20’). The Fuggerstädter enjoyed more possession towards the end of the first half and looked to threaten on the break, but were unable to create any further clearcut chances and went in 3-0 down at half time.
Improvement after the break
FCA looked a different side after the restart. Manuel Baum’s team were much more solid defensively, although they continued to lack the finishing touch going forward. Much of the second half was played out in midfield, with dangerous opportunities few and far between at either end.
Leeds did strike again in the 82nd minute, however. Ao Tanaka’s through ball released Lukas Nmecha, who kept his composure to slot past Dahmen and round off the scoring at 4-0.
FCA begin their competitive campaign next weekend with a trip to Cottbus in the DFB-Pokal. The game will kick off at 13:00 CEST on Saturday, 22nd August.
