FC Augsburg made it two wins from two with a 4-1 victory away to Eintracht Frankfurt, a result that took them top of the Bundesliga at the end of a matchday for the first time. Read all the reaction to the win here.
Robin Fellhauer: “It’s amazing to be able to celebrate a second win in a row with the fans in the away end. We're not happy with the first half, though, and we needed a bit of luck at times. But we responded brilliantly and we got our reward in the end, which makes the result all the more satisfying. We created our chances well and took them. Our efficiency made the difference today. Being top of the league obviously feels good. It doesn’t mean too much after only two matches, but it’s a nice position to be in and we’ll take confidence from it.”
Marius Wolf: “We had a poor first half and gave Frankfurt too much space. We made some good adjustments at half time and were much sharper after the break. That paid off straight away with the two quickfire goals. We showed against Cottbus and Schalke how we can come out of the blocks well after half time. We’ve only played two games, so we just need to take things one match at a time. We want to be difficult opponents for every team.”
Finn Dahmen: “Our first half was really poor. What was important was the confidence we showed when we came back out for the second half. In the end, I think we deserved the win. Being top of the table is obviously a nice moment. I think it’s the first time for most of the players in our squad, so it is special. At the same time, we should put it into perspective. It’s only matchday 2 and we know being top after two games doesn’t mean we’ll stay there. But the start we’ve made shows that we put in good work in pre-season. We want to keep this momentum going for as long as possible.”
Arijon Ibrahimović: “It was a great feeling to stand in front of the fans after the game and celebrate the win. It doesn’t get any better than that. It was a brilliant performance from the whole team, even if the first half wasn’t our best. We always believed in ourselves, and I’m proud and happy. You could see how united we are as a team. That’s something I’ve already noticed in the few days since I arrived at Augsburg.”
Fabian Rieder: “The first half wasn’t good enough from us. We made things too easy for Frankfurt and knew we had to change a few things in the second period. We started that really well, scored two goals in quick succession and didn’t give anything away defensively after that. There’s so much quality in this team, but the key is winning our duels and being switched on from the start. It’s an incredible feeling to have begun the league season with two wins, and I think we ultimately deserved it again today.”
Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg head coach): “That’s the beauty of football. Nobody would have expected that scoreline after the first half. We can thank Finn for the fact that we were only 1-0 down at the break. We were too timid and Frankfurt had quite a few chances. But this team believe in themselves and you could see that after the break. Of course, there was also an element of luck involved with the two quickfire goals. The key was that we kept on believing after half time, and the players who came off the bench made a real impact. That’s what this team is all about.”
Adi Hütter (Eintracht Frankfurt head coach): “In the first half, we played exactly the kind of football I want to see. But a game lasts 90 minutes, not 45. We conceded twice out of virtually nothing and never really recovered after that. Augsburg defended deep and countered very well. We couldn’t get anything going in the second half, didn’t have enough efforts on goal and weren’t precise enough in our play. We were also vulnerable on the counter. That made the second half very disappointing.”
