World Cup qualifiers: Hinteregger scores for Austria

First Team 12.06.2017, 12:06
A number of FCA professionals are currently on international duty as they look to qualify with their respective sides for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Martin Hinteregger and Kevin Danso (both with Austria), as well as Alfred Finnbogason (Iceland) fought to earn their teams important points on Saturday, June 11th. FCA defenders Martin Hinteregger and Kevin Danso both travelled to the Irish capital city of Dublin, with the game finishing 1-1 as the Austrians picked up a vital point. Hinteregger himself scored the goal from a corner which was delivered by FC Bayern’s David Alaba to give his nation the lead at the 31 minute mark. Jonathan Walters equalised in the closing stages of the game (85’) for Ireland. Whilst Martin Hinteregger played the full 90 minutes, Kevin Danso was an unused substitute. The Austrians now have eight points in Group D and are in fourth place, and still have a theoretical chance of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, although they admittedly do have a tough task ahead of them. Alfred Finnbogason played in Reykjavik with Iceland against Croatia. Hördur Magnusson’s fired his side into the lead, and it was also the only goal of the game as it finished 1-0 to the home side. FCA striker Alfred Finnbogason started the game and was taken off after 77 minutes. Iceland are now level on points at the top of the table with Croatia, but are still technically second, although they have a great chance of ensuring that they qualify for the World Cup.
