Weinzierl: "Really tough way to bow out"
Bochum match reaction
FC Augsburg are out of the DFB-Pokal after being beaten 5-4 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in Bochum. "Once it goes to penalties it’s no longer a comparison of quality – luck decides the outcome," said Weinzierl. Read on for his and others’ match reaction.
Markus Weinzierl: "This is obviously a really, really tough way to bow out. The players fought back really well in the second half and responded well to going two-nil down. This was an open encounter with good chances at both ends. Once it goes to penalties it’s no longer a comparison of quality – luck, or a lack of it, decides the outcomes. I think there are a lot of positives to take from this game going into our league clash with Stuttgart on Sunday."
Thomas Reis: "This game was definitely not for the faint-hearted. We started the game well and then went 2-0 up at the start of the second. It was really frustrating to concede so soon after and then go on to concede the equaliser a minute later. That shows you, however, that Augsburg are a good team that doesn’t let their heads drip. After their equaliser this was a typical cup game with chances at both ends. Thankfully it had a happy ending for us. We are just happy to be in the next round now."
