Schmidt: “It’s possible to beat anyone”

First Team 11.09.2019, 12:15
FC Augsburg are faced with their second home game of the season on Saturday 14th September (15:30 CEST), after the international break comes to a close. Head coach Martin Schmidt speaks ahead of the game against Eintracht Frankfürt about... ...the international break: “When you win a game just before the start of the international break, of course you want to keep your momentum going. If not, you can work hard during the break to make up for it. You just have to try to deal with it. We were fortunate that most of our players stayed here so we could continue training as usual.” ...pressure: “There’s always going to be pressure in the Bundesliga. For us, our challenge is now to try and pick up our first win of the season. However, this demand for victory comes from within the team itself.” ...the friendly against Schaffhausen: “It’s difficult to judge games like this because we rarely come up against opponents in the Bundesliga who play like them. It was mostly just about trying things out and giving minutes to players who are only just coming back from injury.” ...the current squad situation: “We are definitely well-covered in attack: Alfred Finnbogason played the majority of the friendly, Michael Gregoritsch returns after scoring a goal in the international break. Ruben Vargas put in a great performance for his national team and Florian Niederlechner has already been involved in a few goals this season. Of course, it’s important to build the squad around the players who are in good form.” ...their opponents, Eintracht Frankfurt: “With the signings of Bas Dost and André Silva, they certainly aren’t any weaker in attack than they were last season. They’ve also got a very strong midfield to support them. However, there will always be gaps and it’s possible to beat anyone. Frankfurt are no exception to this, especially since we are at home.”
