Richter: “Go to Berlin with passion and the will to win”

First Team 21.01.2020, 11:47

It was almost a perfect afternoon for Marco Richter on Saturday, as he sent his side into a 2-0 lead with a wonder goal shortly after half time. However, it was not meant to be for FCA on the day, as BVB ultimately ran out 5-3 winners.

“In the end, the overall feeling is disappointment. Leading 3-1 against Dortmund isn’t something that happens every day. We should have put the game to bed,” the 22-year-old said after the game. However, despite the result, there were certainly positives to take from the game, after what was a vastly impressive opening hour from FCA. “We showed determination, passion and the will to win. We will take these positives with us to Berlin,” he stated ahead of their next Bundesliga match on Saturday 25th January (15:30 CET).

However, the newly-promoted side will by no means be an easy task for Martin Schmidt’s side. After a rocky start to their Bundesliga career, Union have started to rack up the points, and find themselves just three points and two places behind FCA in the table. Many sides have already fallen prey to Union’s well-renowned hostile atmosphere at the Alten Försterei, as Richter warns, “we need to block the atmosphere out of our minds. I’m expecting an intense match.” It is, however, a game that FCA, “desperately want to win.”

Furthermore, the attacking midfielder views the upcoming matches as a chance for him to show what he can do on a personal level, after finding himself on the preliminary squad list for this summer’s 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. “It’s my goal to be called up, so I need to put in strong performances,” Richter is aware. On Saturday, he has the chance to start proving his worth.
