Michael Gregoritsch joins FC Augsburg on a permanent deal
Club trigger buy option
FC Augsburg have triggered the buy option in Michael Gregoritsch's contract. The striker joined the club on loan from Brøndby IF in January 2026 and has now put pen to paper on a contract dated 30th June 2027, with the option to extend by an additional year.
Gregoritsch had previously featured for FCA from 2017 to 2022, and impressed following his return in the second half of last season. The striker scored six goals and provided three assists in 17 appearances. Overall, he has found the back of the net 35 times in the Bundesliga for FCA, just two goals shy of matching Alfred Finnbogason as the club's all-time record goalscorer in the division. The striker is currently taking part in the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA with Austria.
"In the second half of last season, Michael demonstrated just how important he is to our team with his goal contributions and his strong performances. He takes up responsibility, in addition to being a team player and a real leader, both on and off the pitch. He's an important point of contact for our young players and new signings in particular, with the experience and support that he is able to provide them. As a result, we are delighted that he will continue to remain a key part of our team. We now wish him all the best at the World Cup with Austria," said FCA sporting director Benni Weber.
"I feel extremely at home at FC Augsburg, which I've made no secret of," said Gregoritsch. "I can sense the trust the club has in me and am extremely familiar with the surroundings here. I'm looking forward to continuing to represent FCA in the future. It's great to have been able to gain some clarity on what my future holds before the World Cup gets underway. I will now enjoy the next few weeks with the national team before returning home to Augsburg. As a team, we can't wait for the new campaign to begin in order to build on our success in the second half of last season."
