Maaßen: “The equaliser really shows you the team’s spirit”

Post-match reaction to the draw with Frankfurt

First Team 29.04.2023, 19:35

FC Augsburg came away with a point with Eintracht Frankfurt, drawing 1-1. Here is all the post-match reaction.

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “It was a tough game for us today, especially in the first half. We didn’t start the game well and conceded an unlucky own goal. We had the right reaction in the second half, and at the end of the day it’s a well-earned and important point for us.”

Ermedin Demirović: “We fought until the end and earned this important point. We discussed the things which weren’t right at the start very clearly at half time, and showed our team spirit. Ruben [Vargas] set me up like the way he did today in training, so it’s even better that it worked out in-game.”

Arne Maier: “We imagined doing much better in the first half, but got back into the tackles and back in the game as it went on. We were properly in the game in the second half and earned our equaliser. The game completely opened up at the end, so we will happily come away with a point.”

Enrico Maaßen: “Frankfurt played very well in the first half. The fact that we went behind due to an own goal is incredibly annoying and unlucky. We had the right intensity in the second half and were right in the game. Ermedin’s equaliser really shows you the team’s spirit. A strong second half means we earned this point.“

Eintracht head coach Oliver Glasner: “When you consider the 90 minutes as a whole, the draw is the right result and it’s a well-earned point for both teams. We were missing some confidence today – we often made the wrong decision for passes and failed to create clear scoring chances.”
