Post-match reaction from the victory away to Köln
FC Augsburg got their reward for their hard work over the last few weeks by winning 2-0 in Cologne thanks to goals from André Hahn and Niklas Dorsch. Here are the post-match quotes.
Andre Hahn: “We knew that it would be an extremely difficult game in Cologne and that was proven to be the case throughout the game. Both teams could have scored, although we probably had more chances and the better ones too, so the win wasn’t undeserved. We know what we’re capable of and that we have quality. We were able to negate the slip-up against Bochum by winning today. We have to carry on like this. You could see today that we’re a real team, that’s the only way you can deal with so many absentees. We worked hard for the goals, but they also came from some great pieces of individual play too. This should be the start of a successful week, not the end of it.”
Jeffrey Gouweleeuw: “Köln hadn’t lost at home until tonight so they had a lot of confidence going into this game. We won here last season though, which is why we knew we could again. The first goal set us on the road to victory and the second one then sealed it. That was probably our best goal of the season. I’m annoyed about my suspension now for five yellow cards, however it had to happen at some point.”
Niklas Dorsch: “The win is the most important thing. I’m really pleased with a great team performance because this was a vital victory. We created a number of chances and deserved to win the game. I’m obviously delighted with my goal and that something I always try in training finally came off in a game.”
Markus Weinzierl: “We put in a good performance away from home and scored the decisive goals. It’s a deserved win in my opinion. We only had a little period where we struggled just after the break, but we recovered and got our first away win thanks to passion, good organisation, tactical discipline and running hard until the end.”
Steffen Baumgart: “Congratulations to FC Augsburg, they deserved to win. Nonetheless, we played well and had a massive chance in the first minute that should have led to us taking the lead. We had a period of good pressure in the second half, but we weren’t able to get the ball in the net because we couldn’t break down a strong Augsburg defence.”
