FCA win 4-1 in second friendly against Rot-Weiss Essen

Essende bags a brace

First Team 25.07.2025, 19:06

After suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat in their first friendly of the day against Rot-Weiss Essen, FC Augsburg were able to come out on top of the second encounter, 4-1.

Just like in the first match, FCA found themselves trailing early on. Essen’s Ahmet Arslan netted from inside his own half, catching Nediljko Labrović off his line (8’).

FCA quickly shook off the setback and put their opponents under pressure. Essen remained compact at the back and looked to set accents of their own via quick counter-attacks. As a result, RWE were able to take a narrow lead into the break with them.

High-scoring second half

Shortly after the restart, Samuel Essende was able to get Augsburg back on level terms. The striker rose highest and headed in a corner to make it 1-1. The momentum was now on FCA’s side, as Kyliane Dong beat his defender and delivered a cross into the box that was turned in by Arne Maier.

The 70th minute saw Oliver Sorg cut inside from the left flank and score with a well-taken shot to make it 3-1. The final goal of the game came from Essende, as he stepped up to convert the penalty after Noahkai Banks had been taken down inside the box (84’).

Next up, FC Augsburg will take on Crystal Palace in a training camp friendly.
