FC Augsburg travelled to the Allgäu for their second friendly of pre-season ahead of the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign. FCA trailed third-tier Saarbrücken for much of the game before Mert Kömür levelled things up by scoring directly from a corner.
In Kaufbeuren, Manuel Baum once again fielded two mixed sides, as he had done in the 5-0 win against a Swabian XI in FCA’s opening friendly. A number of youngsters from the club’s academy were also involved again.
FCA made the brighter start in warm summer conditions and put their opponents under early pressure. Yannik Keitel had the first good chance, heading wide after a cross from Hennes Behrens (4’). Shortly afterwards, Rodrigo Ribeiro showed excellent control to bring down Behrens’ headed knockdown, but his effort flew narrowly past the left-hand post (17’). Academy graduate Tim Schnitzer also found himself in promising positions twice in quick succession, but was unable to break the deadlock (23’).
The third-tier side remained alert, however, defending compactly and looking to break quickly whenever the opportunity arose. Saarbrücken took the lead from one such counter just before the break, with Florian Pick firing a precise long-range effort into the bottom-left corner (44’).
FCA made wholesale changes for the second half in order to give as many players as possible further minutes. The new-look side continued to take the initiative and push forward, but clear openings proved hard to come by as Augsburg struggled to find a way through.
The deserved equaliser was a long time coming, but Kömür finally found the breakthrough late on. The attacking midfielder went for goal directly from a corner and curled the ball superbly into the net to make it 1-1.
