FCA defeat Fürth 4-1 in friendly

Four different goalscorers for Augsburg

First Team 21.03.2024, 16:45

FC Augsburg used the international break to stay in a good rhythm with a friendly match against SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Jess Thorup’s men put in an impressive performance and ran out as 4-1 winners over the second-tier side.

Six FCA players are on international duty, which meant Thorup was unable to select them for Thursday’s match. Former Augsburg player Lukas Petkov was missing for Fürth, as he was called up for Bulgaria. Both sides gradually grew into the game over the course of the first 15 minutes, with chances falling to both sets of players.

In the 25th minute, Felix Uduokhai opened the scoring for FCA. Robert Gumny flicked Pep Biel’s cross on towards the back post, where the centre-back was waiting to head home. Augsburg would get the chance to extend their lead ten minutes later. Gumny ran the length of the pitch and latched onto a ball into the box. He got a shot off with his weak foot, but his effort crashed against the bar.

Three more goals from three more goalscorers

Thorup’s men continued to combine well in attack at the start of the second half. Sven Michel had two efforts from distance within a few moments of each other, but both were parried by Fürth goalkeeper Leon Schaffran. In the 56th minute, Dion Beljo had a chance to double the lead. Despite having several stabs at the ball, he was unable to beat Schaffran. Augsburg would not have to wait long for their second goal, however, as Mads Petersen’s powerful strike made it 2-0 just a minute later.

Arne Maier scored the third, sending a deflected effort into the far corner with his left foot after some brilliant work from Pep Biel. The visitors were awarded a penalty five minutes from time, which Dennis Srbeny converted to make it 3-1. Augsburg restored their three-goal cushion in the 89th minute, with substitute Juan Cabrera of the FCA U23s finding Pep Biel in the box, who got the goal his performance deserved for a final score of 4-1.

In addition to Cabrera, six other young guns made an appearance: Nick Rasoulinia, Daniel Hausmann, Mahmut Kücüksahin, Julian Bell and Fynn Heinze. Augsburg’s next competitive game in the Bundesliga will see them take on 1. FC Köln at the WWK ARENA on Sunday, 31st March at 15:30 CEST.
