International Roundup: Fredrik Jensen scores for Finland in European Qualifier
The international break has reached its conclusion and several FCA players have been away to represent their respective national teams. Notably, Fredrik Jensen scored his second international goal for Finland in their European Qualifier.
Armenia 0-2 Finland
FCA attacker Fredrik Jensen gave Finland a 14th minute as the visitors dominated against Armenia. Finland doubled their lead late on through Pyry Soiri as they made a strong start to their European qualifying campaign. Jensen featured for 69 minutes in the dominant victory.
France 4-0 Iceland
Alfred Finnbogason’s Iceland suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of world champions France. Samuel Umtiti, Olivier Giroud, Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann were all on the scoresheet as ‘Les Bleus’ cruised to victory in their European qualifier. Finnbogason came off the bench as Iceland slipped to fourth place in Group H.
England U21s 1-2 Germany U21s
Marco Richter and Germany U21s secured a 2-1 friendly victory in their last competitive match before this summer’s U21s European Championships in Italy and San Marino. Mahmoud Dahoud gave the visitors the lead in Bournemouth before England equalised on the stroke of half-time. However, Felix Uduokhai secured a late victory for Germany in stoppage time.
Catalonia 2-1 Venezuela
Sergio Córdova’s Venezuela were unable to secure a victory against an experienced Catalonia side. Former Mainz players Bojan Krkic and Javi Puado scored for the hosts as Venezuela slipped to a defeat. This friendly wasn’t officially recognised by FIFA as Catalonia is a region of Spain, not a sovereign state. Córdova didn’t feature.
Austria U21s 0-3 Spain U21s
The inexperienced Austria U21s were able to hold out for the entire first half against Spain U21s. However, the hosts conceded three times in the second half to fall to defeat. Kevin Danso featured for 69 minutes before being replaced.
