Baum: "We're not letting it get to our heads"
A trip to the Weserstadion
After a strong start to the season, FC Augsburg’s next challenge comes at the Weserstadion, where the Red-Green-Whites will face Werder Bremen on Saturday 19th September (15:30 CEST). At the pre-match press conference, head coach Manuel Baum assessed his team’s strong start to the season.
“Things are currently looking very positive in terms of results, but we’re not letting that get to our heads,” said Baum. At the same time, the FCA head coach set out what remains important: “We need to look at how we can still improve, because there are plenty of things which we still have to work on.”
Whilst FCA have secured seven points from their first three games, Werder Bremen have recorded one win, one draw and one defeat. Most recently, the Green-Whites drew 1-1 against 1. FC Köln, having defeated RB Leipzig 3-1 in their previous match.
Delight following Germany call-ups
There will be a three-week international break following the game in Bremen. Baum sees the for Hennes Behrens and Finn Dahmen’s Germany call-ups as a testament to the positive development within the club. “For Hennes and Finn, being in the Germany squad is a wonderful achievement which highlights the work of the whole club and shows that we’re on a very good path”, said the 47-year-old.
Baum had particular praise for debutant Behrens, saying, “I’ve rarely seen a player who works so hard off the ball and becomes even more effective towards the end of the match. It’s evidence of his deep understanding of the game and his mentality.” Another call-up for Finn Dahmen comes as no surprise to Baum. “Finn’s consistently strong performances in both the Bundesliga and the Pokal have earned him a place in the national squad.
There have been no changes to the FCA squad in terms of the players available. Anton Kade, Sima Suso, Tim Schnitzer, Faik Sakar, Steve Mounié and Tim Breithaupt remain sidelined. FCA are therefore travelling to Bremen with the same squad as in their recent 2–2 draw against Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
