FC Augsburg have filled the previously vacant position of academy head coach at the club. Claus Schromm, previously sporting director at SpVgg Unterhaching, will take over the position as head coach of the FCA academy. The position had been vacant since Alexander Frankenberger gave up his double duties as head coach of both the U19s and the academy in order to focus fully on his work with the U19s.

"We are pleased that we have been able to find a very experienced football expert and coach in Claus Schromm to fill this position. He has amassed a lot of experience as a head coach, both in professional and youth football and is very well-connected in the football community in southern Germany. We are convinced that he is the perfect fit to take on this job as head coach of our academy, because he combines the ability to work strategically with a knowledge of how to develop talent," said FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter. The 52-year-old will begin working for the clubin the coming week.

"FC Augsburg are a Bundesliga side with ambitions, that know their roots and have made great progress in developing young talents over the last years. These are great conditions within which it is possible to successfully develop young talents. The fact that they are currently constructing a new boarding school will only serve to improve the surroundings at the club. I want to do my part in continuing on this tradition of successfully developing talent and improving it," said Schromm.

Daniel Baier to support scouting department

FCA have also added a new face to its scouting department. Former player Daniel Baier, who retired in summer 2020, will return to the club and will support FCA's scounting department. The 37-year-old made 355 competitive appearances for the club, and will join FCA's international scouting department as of 1st September.

"Daniel Baier has given a lot to FCA. He was able to pick up vast experience as a player, knows how to read the game and can pinpoint what a player needs in order to be successful. We are looking forward to having Daniel Baier back at FCA in the future, so that he can take his first steps in his career post-retirement, and that we will be able to add to our team," saif Reuter. Baier is also planning on completing his first coaching badges on the side.
