Claude-Maurice: “We can’t let a lead slip like that”
Match reaction following the 1-1 draw with Union Berlin
FC Augsburg were denied victory in their first home game of the year after conceding a late equaliser against 1. FC Union Berlin. The game eventually ended in a 1-1 draw. Read on for all of the post-match reaction.
Finn Dahmen: “This is, of course, ultimately not the result we wanted. You just can’t let a win slip from your grasp, especially when you’ve been ahead for so long. It was a disappointing end to the game, although Alexis’s goal was definitely spectacular.”
Michael Gregoritsch: “It was great to be in from the start at the WWK ARENA today. We took the lead after that stunner from Alexis and did a lot well, particularly in the second half. We got the basics right on the pitch and would have deserved to win. The late equaliser was obviously disappointing, but we’ll try to keep our momentum going and pick up three points on Sunday.”
Alexis Claude-Maurice: “We played well and had quite a few chances, but we have to be much more efficient in front of goal. We can’t let a lead slip late on like that, especially after the red card for Union, so we’re ultimately disappointed.”
Manuel Baum: “That ending was a bitter blow for us. We have to take a large share of the blame for the goal we conceded. We just needed to be more astute and defend until the final whistle. We struggled to make things happen with the ball a bit in the first half, but we should have scored from one of our counterattacks in the second to make it 2-0 and win the game. That’s why we feel deflated right now.”
Steffen Baumgart: “In the end, we’re pleased with the result. We played really well in the first half and should have taken the lead. Augsburg then scored a sensational goal. In the second half, there were one or two situations where we could have equalised, but we could also have conceded a second. Despite the red card, we kept going and managed to earn a point in the end. That will be very important for us.”
