Baum: “We weren’t clinical enough!”

FC Augsburg were defeated on matchday 19 by Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0. Read on for all the reaction to the game. Marwin Hitz: “We didn’t start the game well - Borussia were just better in the first half. We changed things going into the second 45, but we weren’t clinical enough with our chances. We pushed forward a lot in the second half, which left us very vulnerable on the counter attack.” Daniel Baier: “Unfortunately, we have nothing to show for the big shift we put in throughout the second half. You obviously can’t defend every counter attack, when you play like we did - all or nothing. I’m annoyed that we lost, not because of the table, but because we gave our all in the second half. We have a lot of work to do until we have achieved what we want to achieve.” Martin Hinteregger: “Gladbach put us under a lot of pressure in the opening stages. We didn’t play the way that we had planned to. It was better in the second, and we deserved a goal in all honesty. It’s frustrating, because we came out on the wrong side of a lot of challenges, but the chances were still there for us to equalise.” Michael Gregoritsch: “We generated a lot of pressure in the second half, but we couldn’t make use of it unfortunately. This game showed once again just how close the Bundesliga is.” Manuel Baum: “We showed once again that we can hang with the best sides in this league. We didn’t start well, didn’t win enough challenges, and we weren’t organised enough when we were pressing - so the Gladbach goal was deserved at that point in the game. It was completely different in the second half - we played dangerous football, but we just weren’t clinical enough. By the end it came down to whether we would get an equaliser or if Gladbach could convert on a counter attack.” Dieter Hecking: “We played well today, especially in the first half. We controlled the game. FCA tried everything they could to equalise in the second half and never gave up in their push for an equaliser. We should have scored a second goal much earlier, so Augsburg were in it right until the end.”
