Baum: “We played extremely well after the break”

First Team 25.11.2017, 21:55
Two VAR decisions, one red card for Wolfsburg: FCA came out with a 2-1 win from what was a turbulent game. “We put them under a lot of pressure for the whole game and we always stayed positive, despite going down a goal,” said Manuel Baum after the full-time whistle. Catch all the post-match reaction here. Erik Thommy: “I got told today that I was going to be in the starting eleven, so I was really looking forward to giving my all and showing what I could do. I got off to a bit of a slow start, but then I settled down and we played much better as a team. It was a deserved win when all was said and done.” Alfred Finnbogason: “It takes some adjusting to when you go up a man, and we made things difficult for ourselves early on. After we conceded we told eachother to stay patient, but make sure to take our chances better. We managed to do both.” Marwin Hitz: “I’m happy that we managed to win today despite my crucial error. Other than the goal we conceded it was fairly easy going for us and we created a multitude of chances. We didn’t really let them create anything themselves either, so at the end of the day it was a deserved win.” Michael Gregoritsch: “Things like that happen in football, so we made sure that Marwin knew we had his back. We came together as a team and told eachother to keep going and not give up. Even though we had a bit of trouble initially after their red card, we stayed patient after the break and took our chances.” Daniel Baier: “We were fortunate to be up a man after ten minutes, but that doesn’t mean that it’s always easy. We created a lot of chances, but we just didn’t make use of them. It got even harder after we went 1-0 down. We came together and put things right though and came away with a deserved win.” Manuel Baum: “We were forced to take the initiative after they got the red card. I’m proud of the boys for adapting to the situation quickly, even though we struggled just before half time. We played extremely well after the break and created chance after chance. We deserved to win. We put them under a lot of pressure for the whole game and we always stayed positive, despite going down a goal.” Martin Schmidt: “As soon as we went down a man after ten minutes, we knew it was going to be a long afternoon. We made too many errors to come away with anything from this game and we were obviously very fortunate to have taken the lead in the first place. We didn’t just want to defend it, but we also wanted to try and push for another. However, we couldn’t quite pull it off. We’ll learn from this experience.”
