Baum: “Unfortunately, we fully deserved to lose”

FC Augsburg suffered their first defeat of the season against SV Werder Bremen. FCA had led 2-0, but the points ultimately stayed in Bremen. We gathered all the post-match reaction.
Noahkai Banks: "We never managed to take the pressure off ourselves at any point and just kept getting pushed further and further back. We were far too sloppy as a team and never got our game going at all. It’s bitter to concede the goals so late on. We’re not going into the break with a good feeling now, but we’ll show a different side of ourselves against Bayern afterwards."
Finn Dahmen: “It’s really frustrating. It wasn’t our best game from the start, even though we managed to go 2-0 up. After that we became too passive, made simple mistakes and let Bremen back into the game. That can’t happen to us. We need to analyse it and, after the international break, get back to where we were before. Being called up to the national team means a huge amount to me and is a dream come true. Right now, though, the disappointment from the game is still the overriding feeling.”
Hennes Behrens: “That wasn’t a good performance from us, but somehow we still managed to go 2-0 up. From there, we have to defend that lead better. We weren’t strong enough in the challenges and didn’t see things through properly. We gave Werder belief again and conceded avoidable goals. That’s what happens when you’re not decisive enough. We have to learn from it, and we will because we’re a good team. Straight after the game it’s difficult for me to feel excited about the national team, but I’m sure that will come on Monday once we’ve gone through the game properly.”
Manuel Baum: “When you’re 2-0 up away from home, you have to come away with at least a point, but we fully deserved to lose. We were too careless in possession in the first half and then, after the break, we stopped doing what is normally one of our biggest strengths: defending together as a team. Bremen played a good second half, but our mistakes helped them as well. In the end, their win was fully deserved. We’ll go through the game now and use the next two weeks to work on those areas.”
Daniel Thioune: “I’m absolutely delighted that we managed to turn the game around as a team. Augsburg are known for how well they defend and how dangerous they are in transition, and we saw that in the first half. I have to give my team huge credit, though. At 2-0 down – and normally the game against Augsburg is pretty much gone at that point – they threw everything into it and showed that, alongside their desire and commitment, they can play some very good football too.”
