Wagner: “We want to overtake HSV”
Home affair for Bundesliga matchday 11
Following the final international break of the year, the Bundesliga is back this weekend, and for FC Augsburg a game at home against HSV is coming up this Saturday (15:30 CET).
Matchday 11 will mark Hamburger SV’s first trip to the WWK ARENA in seven years, following the club’s lengthy stint in the second division. “A huge club with momentum and real passion behind them,” said FCA head coach Sandro Wagner, who appeared laser-focused on the task at hand: “We’re absolutely aiming for three points and hoping to overtake HSV in the table.” Currently, Saturday’s opponents sit 13th in the Bundesliga, with FCA two points off in 15th.
The Fuggerstädter are determined to pick up points again after narrowly missing out in defeats to Dortmund (1-0) and Stuttgart (3-2). “We need to work as hard as we can to get on the track, but at the same time we need to stay calm,” said Wagner. The focus now is on the upcoming clash with HSV, a side who have “somewhat developed and adapted their style of play” since achieving promotion last season, and are “really impressive in transitional phases”, as FCA’s coach emphasised.
WWK Arena sold out once again
During the international break, FC Augsburg hosted a friendly match between the first team and the U23s. Wagner was looking confident: “We’ve been preparing well for the game over the past two weeks. Now we want to give our fans a great day of football.” The home affair is completely sold out, so passionate support for the fans is a guarantee.
FCA will be without captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw for the tie, who underwent successful surgery after sustaining a medial collateral ligament injury. Kristijan Jakić will also be unavailable, having picked up an ankle problem while away with the Croatia national team.
