Wagner: "Disappointed we weren't able to make it a better afternoon for the fans"

Post-match reaction following 4-1 defeat against Mainz

FC Augsburg are still waiting for their first home win of the season, having suffered a 4-1 defeat against 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Bundesliga matchday 4. Read on for all the post-match reaction from both camps.

Robin Fellhauer: "We just weren't good enough in possession today and only won 40% of our duels in the first half. Even after going a man up, we were too sloppy with our passes and gave up possession too easily, inviting our opponents to hit us on the break. It's details like that which end up determining the course of a game – sometimes, you have to be prepared to just boot the ball long, rather than over-complicating things. We will have to show a different side to ourselves against Heidenheim and win the game. We just weren't able to do what we'd set out to today."

Finn Dahmen: "We made far too many mistakes today and might as well have sent Mainz an invitation to come and score on us. The fact that they managed to score with both of their first two shots was tough to take. We also should have managed to keep our cool better after conceding. We tried to refocus ourselves at half time and believed that we would be able to find our way back into the game after the red card, but maybe we tried to do too much. In the end, we were ruthlessly punished for it. Overall, it wasn't a good performance from us."

Sandro Wagner: "We really wanted to get our first home win of the season and had set our aims high for today. I'm disappointed that we weren't able to make it a better afternoon for the fans. We know how Mainz would approach the game, and that's exactly what cause both of their first two goals. We should have been better at defending on the counter once we found ourselves a man up. Our communication was lacking at times and we just weren't there in certain moments. There were other things that didn't go our way as well, which is why we're very disappointed."

Bo Hendriksen:
"It's a very good result for us. We played well in the first half already and carried this momentum into the second. We did well despite having a man sent off, even though it wasn't easy. Getting our first win of the season was very important for us."
