Uduokhai and Richter lose their first game at the Olympics
4-2 defeat against Brazil
Germany, who included Felix Uduokhai and Marco Richter in their starting XI, lost their opening match at the Olympic Games 4-2 to Brazil.
The Germans were already 3-0 down after the first half an hour thanks to a Richarlison hat-trick for Brazil (8’, 22’, 30’). Nadiem Amiri pulled one back after 57 minutes, however Maximilian Arnold’s second yellow card dented Germany’s hopes of a comeback (63’). Despite having just ten men, Stefan Kuntz’s team continued to fight back, scoring a second goal through Ragnar Ache with seven minutes to play. Brazil sealed the three points in added time through a curling finish by Paulinho (94’).
Felix Uduokhai played the full game in Japan, while Marco Richter came off after around an hour played. Germany can still reach the quarterfinals – their next game is against Saudi Arabia on Sunday, 25th July (13:30 CEST).
