Two FCA players hoping to reach EURO 2024

Round-up of international call-ups

First Team 17.03.2024, 13:00

There are still three places up for grabs at this summer’s EURO 2024 to be held in Germany. FCA’s Ermedin Demirović and Fredrik Jensen are both still fighting to qualify with their nations.

The semi-finals and finals of the play-offs will be played on Thursday, 21st March and Tuesday, 26th March (both at 20:45 CET). The winners of the three finals will qualify for this summer’s tournament. 12 teams are taking part in the play-offs, including Ermedin Demirović’s Bosnia and Herzegovina.

FCA’s captain will play Ukraine in the semi-finals, with the victor taking on the winner of Iceland against Israel. Fredrik Jensen and Finland are away to Wales in the semis, and would play either Poland or Estonia in their final.

Vargas and Mbabu in action for Switzerland

Switzerland, on the other hand, have already secured their place at EURO 2024 and are in Germany’s group. They will play two friendlies during this international break, away to Denmark (Saturday, 23rd March, 20:00 CET) and the Republic of Ireland (Tuesday, 26th March, 20:45 CET). Ruben Vargas and Kevin Mbabu are in their squad, with it being Mbabu’s first call-up since September 2022.

Arne Engels will be appearing for Belgium U21s. The 20-year-old midfielder takes on Malta (Thursday, 21st March 20:00 CET) and Spain (Tuesday, 26th March, 19:00 CET) in European Championship qualification. Belgium currently have ten points and sit in third in Qualification Group B.

Mert Komür has also received a call-up. The FCA academy product will be playing for Germany U19s as they work towards qualification for the 2024 European Championships in Northern Ireland.
