Thorup: "End the season in the best possible way"
Final match of the season against Union Berlin
FC Augsburg's final match of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season sees them take on 1. FC Union Berlin at home on Saturday (17th May, 15:30 CEST). Jess Thorup's side are seeking to cap off an intense season with a win at the WWK ARENA this weekend.
Heading into matchday 34, FCA find themselves in 11th place with 43 points, just two points behind Borussia Mönchengladbach. After a run of three straight defeats, the Fuggerstädter are eager to end the season on a high. "Our aim is to end the season in the best possible way, together with our fans," Thorup said.
FCA fell to a 4-0 defeat away at VfB Stuttgart last weekend, having been a man down for nearly 80 minutes. "The game didn't go our way at all – we conceded early on and then came the red card," Thorup said. The Dane is now hoping for a change in fortunes against Union Berlin, who come into the game sitting in 13th place with 37 points. "If we're sat in the dressing room after the game with muddy shirts, then we'll know that we gave it our all," the head coach stated.
FCA without Essende and Berisha
Thorup will be without Samuel Essende this weekend, after the striker was given a four-match ban following his red card against Stuttgart. Mergim Berisha will also miss the match due to injury. However, the Dane could welcome back Noahkai Banks, who was recently able to return to team training. The 18-year-old could therefore be an option for the squad.
Fans can expect a festive atmosphere at the WWK ARENA ahead of the team's final game of the season. The club's active supporters section has called for all FCA fans to arrive at the stadium wearing white. Additionally, there will be official farewells ahead of kick-off for several players, as well as assistant coach Lars Knudsen. Referee Dr. Felix Brych will also be officiating his final Bundesliga game and will also be given a fitting farewell.
