South African U16 national team visits FC Augsburg
Bundesliga Dreams initiative
As part of the Bundesliga Dreams initiative, FC Augsburg welcomed a team from Africa to Augsburg for the very first time. The South Africa U16 national team spent several days in the Fuggerstadt, gaining valuable insights into German football and the work of FCA’s youth academy.
Based near the Paul Renz Academy and catered there throughout their stay, the team enjoyed a varied programme at FCA’s facilities. Alongside their own training sessions, the visitors also took part in sessions led by FCA coaches. The trip will conclude on Tuesday evening with a match against FC Augsburg’s youth players.
The delegation was also given exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the Bundesliga club. A stadium tour of the WWK ARENA offered the visitors a closer look at FCA’s home ground, while a meet and greet with first-team players Juma Bah and Chrislain Matsima created some especially memorable moments. Another major highlight of the visit was attending FC Augsburg’s Bundesliga match against FC Bayern Munich, giving the young players the opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of the Bundesliga first-hand.
Following visits from four teams from Asia — India, Thailand on two occasions, and China — the South Africa U16 national team became the first team from Africa to visit FCA as part of Bundesliga Dreams. The trip also builds on the FCA first team’s visit to South Africa during the 2024/25 season and further underlines the close connection between the club and the country.
After their stay in Augsburg, the South African team will continue their journey with stops at Arminia Bielefeld and then in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the side will take part in the U15 World Championship.
