Schnitzer: “I want to gradually earn more minutes”

Interview at the training camp

First Team 05.08.2026, 11:00

Tim Schnitzer made his professional debut for FC Augsburg away to Leipzig in March 2026. Now the 18-year-old academy graduate is attending his first training camp with the first team, where he spoke about…

…his first training camp with the senior squad: “The hotel is excellent and the training facilities are really good too. The lads have made me feel very welcome, which obviously makes it easier to settle in. I was involved with the first team quite a lot last year as well, and I can feel that I’m becoming more and more established within the group. At the same time, I’m trying to learn something new every day and keep improving.”

…the step up from youth football: “The workload is heavier and there’s more training, which makes it even more important to stay mentally sharp. But you can’t overthink things either. You have to go out there and simply play football so that you don’t lose that enjoyment and freedom in your game.”

…his journey through the academy: “I grew up just one street away from the academy and joined FCA’s U10s nine years ago. Since then, I’ve worked my way up step by step. To now become the latest academy player to make the step into the first team is a real honour, and I’m enjoying every moment of it.”

…his next targets: “The most important thing for me is to perform well in training and show what I can do. I’ll play wherever the coach sees me, and I want to gradually earn more minutes.”

…his life away from football: “Until now, school has taken up most of my time outside football I finished school this summer, but I’m taking a bit of a break for now and focusing entirely on football.”
