Schmidt: “We’re satisfied with a point”

First Team 05.05.2019, 17:48
After securing Bundesliga survival, FC Augsburg have secured a hard fought point away against FC Schalke 04. “We’re satisfied with taking a point today, but less so with our performance,” said FCA head coach Martin Schmidt following the match. Here is the post match reaction. Gregor Kobel: “Both team were unable to exert the necessary pressure to make the breakthrough today. You could certainly see thisn in the match. Just like us, Schalke can be satisfied with taking a point today. I’m proud that we have secured Bundesliga safety. It’s important for the club, the city of Augsburg and the surrounding region.” Daniel Baier: “The burden of battling for survival ended yesterday (with Stuttgart’s defeat in Berlin). We have experienced a difficult season which has included several difficult matches. However, we have also played well in several matches too. I’m very proud to be playing in the Bundesliga once more for FC Augsburg next season. The team can be proud of securing top flight safety.” Martin Schmidt: “After Stuttgart’s result yesterday, we knew that tensions would be lower for today’s match. However, we wanted to secure the final point we needed to see us over the line regardless of the Stuttgart result. Overall, it was a hard fought match and the first half was very even. Schalke definitely created the better chances to score in the second half. We’re satisfied with taking a point today, but less so with our performance even more so with how this weekend played out.” Schalke interim head coach Huub Stevens: “Congratulations to FC Augsburg for securing Bundesliga survival. Today, I watched a match in which we played well tactically, stood tall and had some good build-up play. However, this was only the case until we reached the Augsburg penalty area. We have also finally secured Bundesliga survival. That is all that counts. All the other things are not important to us. We are satisfied.”
