Schmidt: "The team showed a reaction after the break"

First Team 01.02.2020, 18:40

After an incredibly passionate performance from FCA, they managed to turn around their game against Werder Bremen to win 2-1. “The team showed a reaction after the break and turned the game around,” said Martin Schmidt, happy with the three points. Here are the full quotes from the game.

Ruben Vargas: “It’s a really great feeling, winning that game. We were unfortunately behind going into the second half thanks to that own goal, but once we got into the dressing room we were fired-up and we knew that we were going to win this game. Then we changed up our tactics in the second half, and did what we set out to do. We put them under a lot of pressure and then for my goal to make it 2-1, that was a wonderful feeling. I’m happy that I was able to help out the team.”

Tin Jedvaj: “We played very well in the second half to start with. Bremen were very lucky to take the lead and I think that they didnÄt have too many good chances to socre. We certainly didn’t have enough creativity in the first half but during the break we sorted things out and showed that we deserved the win in the second half. It was very important that we always kept believing and not give up. We wanted to show how hard it is to play against us at home in front of our fans and managed to come back strongly.”

Daniel Baier: “That was a richly-deserved win; the team always believed in themselves and went that extra step further. We didn’t actually allow them any chances over the course of the game and just shot ourselves in the foot with our own goal. We showed another side to ourselves in the second half and it was amazing that we were able to reward our fans for their support. We’ve kept Bremen at a distance with this win and that’s the most important thing. But ultimately, we’re only focusing on ourselves.”

Alfred Finnbogason: “Whenever you score two goals an win the match, you know it’s a great birthday. I’m happy about the win and for the fans. We were too passive in the first half and didn’t give the fans any reasons to celebrate. In the second half we put our foot on the gas and won deservedly.”

Florian Niederlechner: “The first half was of course awful, but after the break we showed the right reaction and I got a goal for the game. We’ve scored goals and defended well. It was a very, very, very important win, because we’ve been able to increase the gap.”

Martin Schmidt:  “We were a bit surprised by Bremen’s style of play, and the goal we conceded was a little unsettling. The first half wasn’t good enough, but the team showed a reaction after the break and turned the game around. Now we’ll go into the next couple games with the wind at our back and hope to get something against Frankfurt.”

Florian Kohfeldt: “Congratulations to Augsburg for the well-deserved home win. The first half was decent for us, but it was difficult because of our squad situation. We forced the mistake that led to the goal. After the break Augsburg put us under a lot of pressure, and the equaliser was deserved. We weren’t clever enough to prevent the second goal, and due to their strong second-half performance it was a deserved win for them.”
