FC Augsburg have secured the services of Portugal U20 international Rodrigo Ribeiro. The 20-year-old centre-forward joins the club on loan from Sporting Lisbon until the end of the season, with FCA also securing an option-to-buy agreement.

Ribeiro boasts an impressive career path: he progressed through the youth setup at Sporting Lisbon and made his professional debut in the UEFA Champions League against Manchester City in March of 2022. At the age of just 16 years and ten months, the 6’ 1” striker became the second-youngest Champions League player in the club’s history. He has so far made twelve competitive appearances for Sporting’s first team. During the second half of the 2023/24 season, Ribeiro spent six months on loan at Premier League side Nottingham Forest, featuring in five competitive matches.

This season, the 20-year-old has mainly featured for Sporting B in Portugal’s second division. In eleven appearances, he scored five goals and provided one assist. Ribeiro has also been a regular for Portugal’s youth national sides since U16 level. He has so far earned 15 caps for Portugal U20s, scoring three goals and registering one assist, including the decisive goal in a 1-0 win over Germany U20 in October 2025.

Powerful and clinical centre-forward

“The journey that Rodrigo has been on at just 20 years of age is impressive. He brings technical quality, dynamism and goal threat, expands our options in attack and at the same time increases competition in the role, which is exactly what we need. We’re looking forward to taking the next step together with him,” said FCA sporting director Benni Weber.

“I was convinced straight away by the opportunity to join Augsburg and by the project here. I’m joining an ambitious club that trusts young players and gives them the opportunity to prove themselves. I want to show what I’m capable of in training, improve every day and do my bit to help us achieve our goals this season,” said Rodrigo Ribeiro, who will wear the number 21 shirt at FCA.
