Rieder: "Extremely proud of the team"
Reaction to win in Leverkusen
FC Augsburg picked up three important points in their 2-1 win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on matchday 30. An intense game against the Werkself saw the Függerstädter have the necessary bit of luck on their side in order to net a late winner. Read on for all the post-match reaction from both camps.
Finn Dahmen: "I think I had to make more saves today than in any other game this season. We were maybe a bit lucky to win today, but sometimes that's just how it is in football. Overall, we're on the right path. We've found the right mix of stability at the back and confidence in attack."
Fabian Rieder: "I'm extremely proud of the team. It was a hard-fought win that we achieved as a team, even if there might have been a bit of luck involved as well. It all starts with being able to even create chances against a team like Leverkusen, which we managed to do, and it was obviously also important for us to equalise quickly as well. Finn Dahmen was fantastic, but the entire team deserves a lot of praise today. Everyone gave it everything they had. I felt confident when stepping up to take the penalty and was convinced that it would go in."
Cédric Zesiger: "There were a lot of emotions in today's win. Fortunately, it ended well for us. Of course, we also needed a bit of luck today, but we believed in the fact that we could win for the entire time. We fought until the end, threw ourselves into every tackle and showed what it means to play for FCA. Leverkusen are a top team – it's not for nothing that they won the Bundesliga two seasons ago, in addition to still competing for Europe now. In order to win here, you need a performance just like that. You have to have a bit of luck, bring the right mindset to the pitch and make the most of your chances. It was an extremely important win. We really made a statement once again today."
Manuel Baum, FC Augsburg head coach: "We're obviously very happy to have won and to now have 36 points on the board. We knew just how strong Leverkusen are. Looking at the statistics now, it's clear just how important it was for us to have an extremely strong goalkeeper on our side today. However, in football it's also important to be able to brush off those moments where a top opponent like this is able to create chances and to instead continue to fight bravely. That's exactly what the lads did exceptionally well today. We may have missed a couple of chances on the counter-attack, but we're also incredibly happy to have been able to score the winning goal in the end."
Kasper Hjulmand, Bayer 04 Leverkusen head coach: "Congratulations to FC Augsburg. It was a crazy game – we were extremely dominant and had 35 shots and several big chances. It's frustrating that we only managed to score once. That's what made the difference today."
