Richter: “It is obviously an amazing thing”

First Team 24.10.2019, 15:32

During the 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich, Marco Richter lucked out, managing to score the second-fastest FCA goal in Bundesliga history. In an interview with FCA-Fan-Tv, the home-grown talent spoke about getting an unexpected point against the champions and the upcoming game against VfL Wolfsburg.

Only 27 seconds had passed since the start of the game against Bayern when Marco Richter volleyed Rani Khedira’s headed pass into Manuel Neuer’s goal. It was the fastest goal scored by an Augsburg player in the Bundesliga. Prior to this, the fastest goal for FCA came last season, also against Bayern, when Leon Goretzka deflected into his own net after just 13 seconds. In their ninth year in the Bundesliga, Augsburg have scored six goals in the first minute.

“It was an incredibly cool feeling”, Richter summarised after getting a point against Bayern. “It means you start the next week feeling calm. Of course, the atmosphere in the dressing room and on the pitch is very good.” The 21-year-old was right back in the starting eleven against the champions after his injury layoff. “I was extremely pleased that the coach gave me the start,” Richter said. “We managed to take a point off Bayern and I scored a goal. It was obviously an amazing thing, so we should continue like this.”

Richter: “We want to live up to our performance in the Bayern game”

On Sunday, 27th October (15:30 CEST) FCA travel to VfL Wolfsburg. “There we want to live up to our performance in the Bayern game and take home three points,” emphasised Richter. While Augsburg are still awaiting their first victory away from home, Wolfsburg are yet to lose a game this season. “We know that we can use our luck and defend extremely well,” stressed the number 23. “We want to go at it full throttle – then maybe we can get a win.”
