After four years in Augsburg

First Team 22.04.2026, 14:30

FC Augsburg and Elvis Rexhbecaj will part ways this summer. The 28-year-old midfielder’s contract, which expires at the end of the season, will not be renewed, and the Kosovo international will join VfL Wolfsburg for the new campaign.

Rexhbecaj joined FCA ahead of the 2022/23 season and has since made 117 competitive appearances for the club, scoring six goals and providing two assists. He will now return to Wolfsburg, where he came through the youth ranks and also made his Bundesliga debut.

“After open and constructive talks, we came to the decision not to extend Elvis’ expiring contract,” said FCA sporting director Benni Weber. “Elvis has always given everything on the pitch and always put the team first, and we would like to sincerely thank him for that. Anyone who knows Elvis also knows that he will continue to give everything in the remaining games of the season as we look to finish the campaign as successfully as possible together.”

Elvis Rexhbecaj commented: “I’ve spent four years in Augsburg now, and it has been a hugely important period in my career, for which I’m incredibly grateful. FCA, the fans and the lads in the dressing room will always be very special to me. A new chapter awaits this summer at my boyhood club – but until then, my full focus is on Augsburg. I’ll give everything right up to the final game so we can finish the season in the best possible way.”

Rexhbecaj will be officially bid farewell at the club’s final home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, 9th May, at 15:30 CEST at the WWK ARENA.
