Rexhbecaj: “As a team, this is how we have to continue”
Post-match reaction following 2-0 win in Bremen
FC Augsburg celebrated their second away win in a row as the second half of the season got underway on matchday 18. Samuel Essende scored twice in a 2-0 win in Bremen, as FCA also picked up their second straight clean sheet. Read on for all the post-match reaction to the match.
Elvis Rexhbecaj: “The match was hard work but we were able to reward ourselves. In the past weeks, we spoke a lot about how we wanted to perform on the road and I think we saw that today and also on Wednesday in Berlin. As a team, this is how we have to continue. The last couple of days were very intense. Now it is about regenerating and then turning our focus to our home game against Heidenheim.”
Samuel Essende: “This was important today. We have now won on the road twice in a row and I am very happy to have contributed with my two goals. It was a close game but we are growing closer and closer as a team and we worked for and deserved this win.”
Henri Koudossou: “I’m very satisfied with what is our second away win in a row. It wasn’t an easy game, but we did a good job today and held on. As a result, the mood is obviously great at the moment but in six days, we already have our next game and we want to continue this way. That is what we are focusing on.”
Jefffrey Gouweleeuw: “The game against Union gave us a boost. Today, we continued from where we left off in Berlin. We kept believing in ourselves in this game as well. This is exactly the way we have to continue. We were very clinical in attack and threw everything we had into every situation.”
Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg head coach): “We have now won away twice in a row. That makes me happy, naturally. Looking at the whole 90 minutes, the win was deserved. In the first half, we pressed high and were highly efficient. Bremen had some dangerous chances and luck also played a part, as we saw with the shot that hit the post in the second half. We ran seven kilometres more than the opponent, so I would like to praise the entire team. This was a team win which will only increase our confidence.”
Ole Werner (SV Werder Bremen head coach): “We did a lot of good things in the middle of the pitch. Ultimately, matches are won in the penalty box and that is where FCA were better today. We didn’t bring our quality to the pitch today, even though we had a lot of opportunities. Of course, there were some controversial moments that could have turned the game in the opposite direction but Augsburg were simply more efficient today and in the end, deserved the win.”
