In January Reece Oxford came to FC Augsburg from West Ham, initially on a short-term loan from the English club. FCA have now signed Oxford on a permanent basis. The 20-year-old is noticeably delighted about his return to Augsburg. Reece Oxford is back in red, green and white, training for the start of the new season with his teammates. On Saturday 10th August (15:30 CEST) the first-round of the DFB-Pokal kicks off against SC Verl. Oxford’s decision to return to FCA was a deliberate one: “Of course, I felt comfortable here, that’s why I came back. I really liked the Bundesliga and I was especially fond of the club. I like the fact that young players are given the chance to prove themselves here.” Oxford spoke English in this first interview since his return but is already diligently learning German: “I am learning as much as I can and I’m taking German lessons. I always had Augsburg in the back of my mind and wanted to get fully involved here.” Oxford: “The team is fully motivated” Pre-season under head coach Martin Schmidt is in full swing. After the training camp in Bad Häring there are still some intense training sessions before FCA’s first competitive game. Oxford’s first impression of the team since his return is really positive: “The team is fully motivated, the training sessions are tough, but that's exactly how I can develop myself as a player. Now I'm really looking forward to the new season. I want to prove myself here so I can get as much playing time as possible.” Oxford will mainly be playing as a centre-back, a position he has a role model for: “Definitely Rio Ferdinand. I’ve met him a couple of times before and I see him as a role model on and off the pitch. My style of play is very similar to his and I hope I can help FCA with it.” Welcome back, Reece!
