FC Augsburg will face another tough task on Friday evening (20:30 CET), as they head to face RB Leipzig. Florian Niederlechner takes stock of second-place RBL and explains how FCA are looking to regain some confidence.

FC Augsburg and Florian Niederlechner are coming off some tough weeks. After defeats to Borussia Dortmund (3-1) and VfL Wolfsburg (2-0), the team will now face RB Leipzig on Friday, before facing Bayer 04 Leverkusen next weekend. “We will have to get through it, even though it will be tough,” said Niederlechner. “We need to give it everything and see that we pick up some points.”

According to the attacker, FCA have already worked past their most recent defeat. “It was a very difficult game against a very strong opponent,” he said. “In the end, we deservedly lost, there’s no way around it.”

“Otherwise, there’s no point in even stepping out onto the pitch.”

Now, another top team awaits in the form of RB Leipzig. “They are currently one of the best teams in Europe,” Niederlechner said. “It will be extremely difficult, but we will give it our all and see what happens.” The 30-year-old acknowledged that the team has maybe been lacking some self-confidence of late. “Of course that’s missing right now, but we need to fight our way back and work hard to earn our luck,” said Niederlechner.

Niederlechner has been able to get some self-confidence back after scoring his first two goals of the season against 1. FC Union Berlin (2-1). “We’ve proven often enough this season that we can do it,” he said. “We beat Dortmund, and beat Union twice - that’s something not many teams in the Bundesliga have managed.” FCA are also looking for a win in Leipzig on Friday evening. “We’re playing football: our aim is always to win and to pick up three points, otherwise there’s no point in even stepping out onto the pitch.”
