National team players begin pre-season training

After FCA returned from the training camp in Walchsee at the weekend, the players who were away representing their countries on international duty also began their pre-season training on Monday.

For Fredrik Jensen (Finland) and Tomáš Koubek (Czech Republic), who were both at UEFA EURO 2020, as well as Carlos Gruezo (Ecuador) and Sergio Córdova (Venezuela), who were involved in the Copa América, the first item on the agenda was a lactate test in the Rosenaustadion. Michael Gregoritsch had already joined up with the team at the training camp following the European Championship. Newcomer Lasse Günther was also part of full team training during the camp after training individually for a period due to his injury.

Ruben Vargas, who made it to the quarter-finals of the EUROs with Switzerland before losing on penalties against Spain, will return for pre-season at a later date. Along with Felix Uduokhai and Marco Richter, who are both involved in the Germany Olympic Team at the Tokyo Olympics, the three are the only absentees from the pre-season squad at this time.

The returnees from international duty could feature in Wednesday’s friendly against Champions League semi-finalists Paris St. Germain (19:00 CEST).
